Exhibit: “Waste Management: There’s Always a Way”

November 17, 2015

The AUB University Libraries, in collaboration with the Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management Department at AUB held the opening ceremony for their exhibit entitled: “Waste Management: There’s Always a Way” on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 17th at Jafet Library.

Through this exhibit, and stemming from the current waste crisis that Lebanon is going through, the AUB University libraries initiated this exhibit to try raising awareness about recycling and about zero waste technology. At the same time, this exhibit supported the development of a bigger collection of material related to waste management, hoping to help researchers and individuals learn more about the issue.

During the event, Dr. Mariette Atallah, Head of the Collection Development and Acquisitions departments relayed special thanks to the Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management Department at AUB, and namely to its Director Mr. Farouk Merhebi, who supported this event through a bibliography related to the topic and who provided materials about the AUB initiative on waste management, displayed among the showcased material.

Many of the displayed material were donated by partners, while others were retrieved from the engineering, science and Jafet libraries’ current collections. The event was done in collaboration with Sukleen, Servicorp, Atria, Cedar Environmental, Beeatoona, Arc-En-Ciel, T.E.R.R.E. Liban, Lebanon Eco Movement, AMWAJ of the Environment, and Active Advocacy for Communities of Tomorrow (ACT), the MOE’s (ministry of environment) and OMSAR’s publications.

Mr. Merhebi also addressed the attendees, talking about the AUB initiative in terms of recycling and waste management, and introducing the new ReVa machines’ loyalty program, which has been revamped and restructured to offer more interesting rewards and thus to better encourage AUBites to use the recycling machines and to dispose of waste responsibly. (For more about the ReVa machines at AUB, read here).

The exhibit will run until December 11th, 2015 at Jafet Library and is divided into the following categories:
