Staff Group Photo at Library Open Day: A Team Building Exercise

In Events,Library Staff by AUB Libraries / September 28, 2015 / 1 Comment

This year’s Library Open Day was a tribute to AUB’s 150th anniversary. As usual, the event featured many games and competitions and a number of prizes, vouchers and small gifts.

This year, however, in addition to the usual eventful day, the libraries had a special opportunity offered by Promax Adventures and Fitness to take an Aerial View group photo of Library staff forming the words “AUB Libraries”. The staff used plain A4 papers, in addition to their own bodies to write the phrase.

UL Staff met on Thursday, September 17th at 9:00 am at Jafet’s main entrance and headed to the Green Oval where the group photo was taken. The photo took a lot of effort, but was successfully completed in around 40 minutes.

The photo was a group effort and was a true team building exercise. It will be a souvenir to remember forever. Go team UL!

The Palestinian Oral History Archive Project cordially invites to the exhibit: We Exist / نحن هنا

Young creative expressions from the Palestinian camps in Lebanon

Exhibition featuring the creative expressions of third generation Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, showcasing their experiences and wishes at three junctures of the community’s life in Lebanon.

Location: Jafet Library Lobby, AUB

Dates: Tuesday, September 15, at 5 p.m. until Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Program includes presentations of AL-JANA’s active learning and creative expression program with marginalized children, followed by children’s films, in West Hall, Common Room:

Tuesday September 15, at 6:00 p.m.

The exhibit is co-organized by ARCPA / AL-JANA, the University Libraries, and the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs.

Since 1998, ARCPA/ AL-JANA has been engaging with third generation Palestinian children born in exile in expressing their concerns & wishes, using the creative media of: photography, video, art & creative & journalistic writing.

The exhibit will feature the work resulting from three projects: “Wish I was a Bird” commemorating the 50th anniversary of Nakba, “Away from Home Again” chronicling the experience of displacement from Nahr al Bared, and “Inspirational Shatilla” commemorating the 30th anniversary of Nakba.

The Palestinian Oral History Archive seeks to digitize, index, catalog, preserve over 1,000 hours of testimonies with first generation Palestinians and other Palestinian communities in Lebanon, and provide access to the material through the creation of a state-of-the-art digital platform. The project is a partnership between the AUB Libraries, the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs, the Nakba Archive and the Arab Resource Center for Popular Arts (AL-JANA).

The exhibit, presentations, and film screenings may be of interest to those involved in education, social work, refugee communities, public memory, and public arts.

We hope to see you there!
