Five staff from the AUB University Libraries visited Koç University in Istanbul from March 26 until March 30 to attend the first “International Library Staff Week” as part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility program.
During their visit, the UL staff had the chance to share information and expertise with fellow Library staff from different parts of the world including China, England, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Albania, Azerbaijan, Morocco, and Turkey, of course.
Presentations and discussions were interactive and thought provoking, covering common Library challenges, along with ideas to overcome those challenges. The theme of the event was “Academic Libraries: Hubs without Borders”.
On the first day of the event, Sahar Ghandour, Business Information Specialist at the Research and Instruction Services department gave a general overview of the University Libraries and introduced the attending AUB staff. During the week, Sara Jawad, Web and Graphic Designer at the Library Systems and Applications Department presented about “Visual Communication in Libraries” and provided tips for non-designers. Nina Ghannam, Digitization Quality Assurance Supervisor at the Digital Initiatives and Preservation Services presented “AUB University Libraries Digitization Overview and Best Practices” as part of the Turkish National Library Week Program – “International Librarians Meet Where Continents Meet”. Rola Mneimneh, Serials and e-Resources Assistant Librarian, and Hussein Mokdad, Acquisitions Assistant Librarian, also attended the event and participated in all the meetings and discussions.
The International Library Staff Week at Koç University Libraries not only allowed room for information sharing, but also created new networks and built new partnerships among the peer universities.
