New at the University Libraries: Student Library Ambassadors Program

In News and Announcements by AUB Libraries / November 12, 2018 / 0 Comments

The University Libraries are very glad to have cooperated with the Center of Civic Engagement and Community Services (CCECS) to recruit Library Student Ambassadors.

The role of these student ambassadors is to help the library reach out to the student body and better communicate with AUB students. The main projects include launching a campaign to raise awareness about fair space and quiet study in the Libraries, planning and marketing library events and serving as a library focus group to provide feedback, suggestions and ideas for library outreach within the AUB student Community.

The partnership with CCECS and with the student volunteers started this fall and the plan is to keep it running to make sure students’ perspective is always taken into consideration when planning any service launch or any event at the Libraries.

So far, 6 very committed and enthusiastic students have joined the Library Ambassadors Program and have assisted the Libraries in several projects.

Mounir Arab, one of the student volunteers, says that at first he was hesitant to undergo this experience. He then realized that being a Library Student Ambassador is not only about performing the allocated tasks and enforcing library rules, but is also about making Jafet Library a better place for his fellow students.

The University Libraries will always welcome student volunteers to add value to the student-library relationship and experience. For more information about this, please contact CCECS or contact Jafet Library.

Maher Kassab, University Libraries’ IT Manager receives AUB President’s Service Excellence Award

In Library Staff,News and Announcements by AUB Libraries / July 25, 2018 / 0 Comments

The University Libraries proudly announces that Mr. Maher Kassab, University Libraries’ IT Manager, has received the President’s Service Excellence Award for 2018.

In the presence of loving family, friends and colleagues, Maher received the award along with three other AUB and AUBMC staff members, during a ceremony held by President Fadlo Khuri on Tuesday, July 10 at 11:30am in Assembly Hall.

Presenting Maher at the award ceremony, President Khuri said, “Maher loves his colleagues…and it’s safe to say today [referring to the attendees’ cheering] that they clearly love him back. People talk about his limitless enthusiasm for his work at the University Libraries. He is known all over campus as a colleague who always stops by to help…even if it’s not his project, showing that he is invested in everything that AUB does.

With both, his technical and management skills, which he has gained throughout his career at AUB, Maher was able to come up with innovative solutions and overcome technical challenges. Since his appointment as IT Manager at the University Libraries, he was able to transform the IT infrastructure and tools at the Libraries to a “state-of-the-art” level, despite the limited resources.

Talking about his career at AUB, Maher says, “I am so grateful to AUB for making my professional career happen. The exposure, the opportunities and the experience here have been unparalleled.”  Adding, “I am very honored to have received this prestigious award. The recognition takes on a special meaning when great family, friends and colleagues are so supportive and caring.

Maher holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer and Communications from the Lebanese University and a Masters of Business Administration from AUB. He has been working at the Office of Information Technology at AUB since 2003, and was appointed as IT Manager for the University Libraries in 2013.

An article about the ceremony was posted on the AUB website.
